“The health and quality of life is declining”
A longtime resident of Detroit’s Warendale/Cody Rouge neighborhood, Roslyn describes her community as multigenerational, connected, and active in addressing local issues. However, frequent truck traffic, despite restrictions, continues to impact residential streets due to weak enforcement and unclear signage.
She highlights serious environmental concerns, noting that pollution from trucks, freeways, and nearby industry contributes to asthma and declining air quality, especially in Black and brown communities. Noise from trucks and freight also disrupts daily life, particularly for residents closer to major roads.
What Real Change Looks Like To Her
She believes solutions should include stricter truck enforcement, better zoning, and more green infrastructure like trees and barrier walls. Ultimately, she envisions a healthier community where clean air is prioritized and residents are protected through proactive leadership and stronger policies.
